Dragonfly Military Applications
Unique Features
The commercial and civilian sectors are just beginning
to employ UAVs. UAVs allow the transportation of materials
to remote locations, provide better security and reconnaissance ,
and allow a variety of other activities to be conducted
with less risk and at lower costs than manned aircraft.
The number of applications is seemingly unlimited.

Medical Transport
Dragonfly can be used to deliver medical supplies
directly to personnel in the field. It can deliver
supplies to soldiers under fire without risking
additional troops. Its ducted fans allow it to land in
close proximity to the troops. Due to the ample cargo
capacity, Dragonfly can also be operated as a medivac to
transport wounded personnel directly to the nearest
medical facility. This significantly improves the
survivability of the remaining troops by allowing them
to keep their attention on the fight and not assigning
personnel to carry the wounded. In manned, remote
operated or pre-programmed unmanned mode, it can bring
medical personnel into an area and enable personnel to
evacuate in multiple cycles.

Search and Rescue
When a pilot ejects behind enemy lines, significant
resources are committed searching for and retrieving
them. This often involves ground troops and manned
craft. More often than not, these additional resources
endanger themselves and their own craft. Dragonfly can
help locate downed personnel using onboard GPS
navigation and instruments to search precise grids.
Dragonfly could also be outfitted with target seeking
electronics which would allow a downed pilot to target
Dragonfly to their precise location. Once the pilot has
been located, Dragonfly can land nearby, be easily
boarded (even by an injured pilot) and then shuttled to
safety.

Monitoring Platform
Dragonfly's sizable payload, minimal takeoff space
and effective range give it superior capacity over other
VTOL UAVs. That increased quantity and type of equipment
will greatly expand the variety, quality and type of
monitoring possible. Increased cargo capacity will make
it possible to use much of the existing electronics.

Cargo Transport
A variety of materials can be transported easily and
without the additional risk of life. Ammunition, weapons
or other combat equipment can be delivered directly to
"hot spots". Troops can be relieved from carrying extra
food, water or supplies, thus allowing them to travel
farther, quicker and with greater agility. Dragonfly's
ducted fans allow it to land in close proximity without
increasing the danger to the troops.

Peacetime Aid
A great deal of the effort expended by the military
is not dedicated to "hot fights", but to providing
humanitarian aid. This may occur in a war zone, or be
the result of an earthquake and other natural disaster.
Often the infrastructure necessary to provide aid has
been destroyed. Dragonfly's versatile personnel and
cargo/payload capacity make it a great workhorse for
providing supplies under these conditions. This can be
accomplished without the delays of building roads or
landing strips. |
