Dragonfly Vehicle Applications
Unique Features
Dragonfly UMR-1 is rather unique in that it can be operated
as an Unmanned, Manned, or Remote Operable vehicle. The application
and mission possibilities expand greatly when a single vehicle
can perform all three ways by simply turning the selector
knob and flipping the seat up or prone. Conventional as well
as unconventional uses abound.
Dragonfly will have an advantage over other UAVs because
of its unique features, which include:
-
Shielded rotors - which allow safer maneuverability
in populated areas.
-
VTOL format - affording Dragonfly the ability
to takeoff and land vertically on flat rooftops, parking
areas, intersections, clearings, and other tight spaces.
-
Small footprint - it fits in a two-car
garage, and does not require hanger space, airports,
or runways like most current UAVs.
-
Increased payload (450 pounds) - significant
cargo capacity (41+ cubic feet), both by cubic measure and
weight.
-
Low maintenance and operating costs.

Dragonfly Military Applications
Manned-only aircraft are
vulnerable to a broad range of weapons that can destroy
or disable them, more often than not, resulting in the
loss of life. Few military operations can be conducted
without risk; however it is always the goal to minimize
loss of life. UAVs provide a cost effective and
practical alternative to manned aircraft and are being
employed whenever possible.

Dragonfly Homeland Security Applications
UMRs have many potential homeland security applications. Among these are search & rescue and disaster response. Since Dragonfly can be flown manned, or unmanned, Dragonfly
can perform a vast range of operations including search
& rescue where it can dramatically increase the search
area, and reduce the time necessary to search an area
without creating an unmanageable cost burden.

Dragonfly Applications for Emerging
Nations
The ability to move goods and people is essential to
the economic growth of all nations. Many emerging nations
simply do not have the infrastructure to allow the free
flow of goods and products, nor do they have resources
to build the roads, bridges and other governmental assets
that allow an economy to grow and develop. Dragonfly
offers an immediate solution to many transportation
and logistics problems. Its ability to vertically take-off
and land, allows Dragonfly to operate in underdeveloped
areas.

Dragonfly Commercial and Industrial
Applications
The commercial and civilian sectors are just beginning
to employ UAVs to complete routine tasks. Next-generation
UMRs allow the transportation of materials to remote
locations, provide better security and reconnaissance , and
allow a variety of other activities to be conducted
with less risk and at lower costs than manned aircraft.
From crop dusting, to commuting, and vacationing, the
number of applications is seemingly unlimited.
